An Actual Conversation: Doodle Dog’s Disappointment

Doodle Dog hates having his feet messed with.  I think this is not uncommon, but being the sadists good dog parents we are, we mess with his feet at every opportunity so when he goes to have his nails clipped, he doesn’t go all Cujo on our vet.

I sure would like a cookie. Cuz cookies are yummy.

When Doodle comes in from the back yard when it is raining, he has to get his feet wiped off which he detests.  As a reward for his patience, he gets a little doggie cookie.  He learned this fall if he looks especially cute when he comes in from the back yard, he might be able to convince us to give him a cookie even if he didn’t have to get his feet wiped.  He may even ask to go out, then immediately back in just to get a cookie.  This works best with me and Sweet Pea because Pickles knows better and Pumpkin Pie sneaks him cookies all the time anyway.

This sunny morning Pickles let Doodle out and back in while I was still upstairs, so when Doodle Dog saw me sitting down to breakfast right by the door, he heard opportunity knocking and decided to ask to be let out.  I let him out.  Then back in.  Then I fell for the cutest-puppy-in-the-world look and gave him a cookie.  Approximately 90 seconds later, he was there by the door again asking to go out AGAIN.

Me:  Sorry, Doodle Dog.  I am not letting you out again and you are not getting a cookie.

Doodle Dog: *big sad sigh*

Pumpkin Pie (with his mouth full of food):  Oh, Doodle.  I know disappointment, too.

About Adventures From Cloud 8

I am a stay at home mom who now and again sneaks away to be an in-home family therapist. My husband and I have 3 boys: Sweet Pea (12), Pickles (9) and Pumpkin Pie (4). Oh yeah. We have Doodle Dog, too. You guessed it! He’s a boy. At least he pees outside.
