Pumpkin Pie’s buddy, Cookie, came over today to play with Pumpkin Pie because
I was tired and boring they were pent up because it’s freaking February and they need to spend time with other howler monkeys who speak their same weird monkey language. Cookie and Pumpkin Pie are the same age and both the youngest of several siblings, but they have very different personalities. Pumpkin Pie’s go-to emotion is hostility and Cookie’s is to go boneless like Trixie in Knuffle Bunny (a fabulous kids book by Mo Willems which you should get if you don’t have it already.)
These two couldn’t settle on anything to do today. Pumpkin Pie wanted to play transformers and only transformers so Cookie decided all he wanted to do was to smack himself in the head. This is what I was dealing with these two monkeys. After a rousing game of Connect Four, they decide to try out Boggle Jr. (Note: Neither of these boys can read. At all.) Pumpkin Pie declared himself the winner which elicited the following conversation:
Pumpkin Pie: I win!!
Cookie: Pumpkin Pie, playing a game isn’t about winning or losing, it’s about having fun playing!
Pumpkin Pie: No way! It’s about WINNING!
Evidently at Cookie’s house they are talking a lot about good sportsmanship. Evidently at our house, we need to.
