My favorite salad in the world is Wegman’s Pear and Provolone Salad. It is a simple combo of spring mix lettuce/greens, pears, and provolone cheese in a lemon vinaigrette dressing. (I know, right?) I love it love it love it and when they have it, I get it for my lunch as a treat for
surviving grocery shopping a grocery shopping trip well done. they don’t always have it, but Pear and Provolone salad is one of the little things that sets the tone for a lovely afternoon for me. I know, I am ridiculous.
Pumpkin Pie (who has been sharing the pear and cheese parts of this salad with me since he was old enough to chew) and I went for a super-lightening-fast Wegman’s trip and managed to score some of this fabulous salad.
Me: Pumpkin Pie, we need to eat lunch fast so we can get you to school, do you want a peanut butter sandwich or a cheese sandwich?
Pumpkin Pie: Can I have that? (Pointing to the salad.)
Me: You want to share my salad? Oh… Okay, sure.
I proceeded to scoop out some salad out for him like I have been doing since he was 2. He usually picks out the cheese and pears and leaves the salad part for me to eat. Today he was munching away and declared:
Pumpkin Pie: Is there even any cheese in this salad?
Cheese is very important to this child.
Me: I don’t see any.
Pumpkin Pie: This isn’t a Pear and Provolone salad, this is just a pear salad.
Me: You’re right! It’s just pears and lettuce.
Pumpkin Pie: I don’t even have any lettuce. I just have these leaves.
And then he ate it all up. The end.
